Better Outcomes Start Before Sentencing.
Human First Mitigation & Advocacy believes that communities are safer and stronger when the root causes of harm are addressed, not just punished.
If you work with individuals who are involved in the criminal legal system, or who are at risk of becoming involved, we want to know you.
We’re Always Building our Resource Network.
When we take on a case, one of the most important things we can do for an attorney and their client is connect them to the right community resources at the right time. Housing. Treatment. Mental health services. Employment support. Reentry programs. Family services.
That means we need to know what exists, who does it well, and who is genuinely committed to serving people navigating the legal system with dignity.
We’re looking to build relationships. If you serve this population and you're good at it, we want to know you, so that when the right client comes along, we can make that connection.
Community connections are critical to this work.
A mitigation report that includes a real, specific, already-in-place plan for support changes what a judge considers. The stronger our network, the stronger the plan we can build with every client.
Reach out and introduce yourself. Tell us what you do and who you serve. That is enough to start.
Who We’re Looking to Know
If your organization serves any of the following, we’d like to have you in our network.
Mental Health Providers
Therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and community mental health centers serving adults and youth, including those with complex trauma histories.
Housing and Basic Needs
Emergency shelter, transitional housing, and stable long-term housing programs. Food security, transportation, and basic needs organizations.
Psychologists
Neuropsychologists, psychosexual evaluators, and forensic psychologists. The right evaluator at the right time changes what mitigation can do with the results.
Substance Use Treatment
Inpatient, outpatient, and intensive outpatient treatment programs. Assessment referral sources. Programs serving individuals with co-occurring disorders.
Employment and Reentry
Employment support, job training, and organizations that hire or support people returning from incarceration or navigating legal involvement.
Sex Offense Treatment
Licensed providers offering sex offense specific treatment programs. Critical for CSC cases and clients who need documented treatment engagement as part of their mitigation plan.
Sober Housing
Recovery housing and sober living programs for clients coming out of treatment who need a stable, substance-free environment as they transition back to independent living.
Family and Youth Services
Organizations supporting children of incarcerated parents, family stabilization, parenting programs, and youth who are at risk of system involvement.
Domestic Violence Programming
Classes and intervention programs for individuals with domestic assault charges. Court-recognized DV programming is often a critical component of a mitigation plan, and knowing which providers are reputable and accessible makes all the difference.
IRTS Facilities
Intensive Residential Treatment Services providing structured, community-based mental health support. Critical for clients who need a step-down level of care after hospitalization or before independent living.
Brain Injury
Treatment centers, rehabilitation programs, screening resources, and advocacy organizations serving individuals with traumatic brain injuries. A significant number of people in the legal system have undiagnosed TBIs that are directly relevant to their behavior and their story.
Don’t see yourself here? Reach out anyway. If you serve people navigating the legal system and want to be a resource, we want to hear from you.
“When a client walks into sentencing with a solid plan already in place, it changes what is possible. Established connections with community partners are critical to this work and the futures of my clients.”
